Seasons allow you to experiment while not falling behind since everyone is rerolling a new character every season. What is fun in an arpg is trying new builds. The arpg genre is far different from a mmo. I dont want to invest time and effort into a character thats only temporary, to me it completely breaks all level of immersion and attachment to the game. We dont have seasons in WoW or any traditional MMOS (including isometric MMOs like Lost Arc) so why should Diablo 4? To me it seems like a lazy way out for developers who cant be bothered to consistently introduce new contents, so they have to implement a forced reset to make sure players dont run out of things to do. Why would i invest time in building up a character thats going to become irrelevant in a few months anyways? i had two top 15 characters for their respective classes in diablo 3 vanilla and honestly thought that progression system was awesome, i love being able to pour a virtually infinite of time and effort into a single character and always feel like im adding to a ladder of progression that never really ends. The idea of permanence seems foundational to the very concept of progress. To me the very concept of seasons seems completely antithetical to what an online RPG is about: progressing and consistently building up your character. I have never played the Diablo 2 ladder system, nor did i play Diablo 3 after the season system was introduced in RoS.
